Ctg double murder: Chotto Sajjad, wife sued after incident
A case has been filed against top criminal "Chhoto Sajjad" and his wife, along with several unidentified individuals, in connection with a double murder in Chattogram, where two people were shot dead in a car.
The case, which names seven suspects and six to seven unidentified persons, was lodged at Bakalia police station on Tuesday evening (1 April) — two days after the fatal attack.
Firoza Begum, mother of victim Bakhtiar Hossain Manik, filed the case, confirmed Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Md Mahmudul Hasan Mamun of Chattogram Metropolitan Police's South Zone.
According to the case statement, Manik worked as a driver for Sarwar Hossain Babla, while the other victim, Abdullah, assisted Sarwar in his personal affairs. On the night of 29 March, Manik, Sarwar, Abdullah, and a few others were socialising near the New Bridge area. As they were returning home towards Bahaddarhat, their vehicle came under attack near the Rajakhali Bridge, where assailants on six to seven motorcycles opened fire.
Attempting to escape, Manik drove towards Chawk Bazar via Bakalia Access Road. Around 2:15am, upon reaching Nawab Siraj-ud-Doula Road in Chawk Bazar, the attackers fired indiscriminately, injuring both Manik and Abdullah.
Sarwar and another passenger, Imon, managed to flee. The wounded victims were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Robin, one of the survivors currently undergoing treatment, said that the attack stemmed from a longstanding rivalry between Sajjad and Sarwar.
Their conflict escalated recently over local political influence and Sajjad's arrest. He claimed that Sajjad's gang had orchestrated the attack in an act of revenge, with the intention of killing Sarwar.
Abdullah's mother, Rasheda Begum, revealed that Sajjad had previously shot Abdullah in the leg two months ago in Rauzan.
"Abdullah had been staying indoors out of fear for his life. That day, he only stepped out for Eid shopping," she said.
