Ctg-Cox's Bazar special train to be launched on June 12
The special train service on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar route, which was closed since May 30 due to engine crisis, is being resumed from June 12.
Bangladesh Railway on Friday (May 31) said this service will be resumed along with other special train services on different routes on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Director General of Railways Sardar Shahadat Ali said, 'Special trains have been planned from June 12 considering the needs of passengers.'
Earlier on May 28, due to lack of engines, the railway authorities announced the closure of the popular train service from Chittagong to Cox's Bazar that was launched last Eid-ul-Fitr.
Sardar Shahadat Ali said: "It has become difficult to run trains regularly due to traction motor problems in the engine and frequent accidents. Therefore, movement of special trains has been suspended. ''
A total of 300 engines are required to operate 200 trains, including more than half of the closed trains in the eastern region, according to information from the Department of Transport and Mechanical Engineering of the Railways.
Currently there are only 156 engines and 100 of them are not working. However, the current demand for the engine stands at 116.
