Cyber Security Act repeal ordinance likely for approval Thursday
The interim government is expected to approve a new ordinance to repeal the Cyber Security Act 2023, enacted by the ousted Awami League government.
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ministry will present the draft of the Cyber Security Act (Repeal) Ordinance, 2024, for approval at an advisory council meeting on Thursday (November 7). The meeting will be chaired by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government.
Officials have confirmed that the issue of repealing the Cyber Security Act will be on the agenda for the meeting.
According to sources, 5,818 cases under the ICT Act, Digital Security Act, and Cyber Security Act remained ongoing in eight cyber tribunals across the country as of August.
Following the interim government’s assumption of office, it began granting bail to individuals detained under these laws and initiated steps to repeal the Cyber Security Act.
