Cyclone Remal: Danger signal 7 at Payra, Mongla
The Meteorological Department reported that the deep depression over the East Central and West Central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclone.
This information was provided in a special bulletin on Saturday (May 25).
In the bulletin, Mongla and Payra seaports have been instructed to lower local warning signal No. 3, while Chattogram and Cox's Bazar seaports have been advised to display danger signal No. 7.
Meteorologists predict the storm will make landfall near Khepupara and Sagar Island in West Bengal, with maximum sustained wind speeds of 110 to 118 kilometers per hour. The storm will bring heavy rains and floods, affecting all coastal districts from Khulna and Sundarbans to Chattogram.
The Meteorological Department stated that if the storm's speed remains unchanged, the leading edge of Remal will hit the coast on Sunday afternoon, with the main storm beginning to move over land by evening.
According to the forecast, widespread rainfall is expected across the country due to the influence of Remal. Consequently, temperatures during both day and night may decrease by two to four degrees Celsius on Sunday.
