Cyclone Remal: Leave of electricity power division employees of all coastal districts cancelled
The leave of electricity workers of all coastal districts has been canceled to deal with the probable impact of severe Cyclone Remal. Once the cyclone hits the southern region of the country, government officials concerned have been instructed to restore the power situation quickly.
However, gas supply is expected to be normal as the storm moves away from Chattogram towards Mongla. Two oil tankers were sent into the deep sea to avoid the impact of Remal. Oil transportation in inland waterways will also be closed.
Sources from Power Division, Rural Electrification Board (REB) and Westzone Power Distribution Company have confirmed this news. Most of the coastal districts are without power due to the cyclone.
Sources confirmed that power supply has been stopped in these areas to protect people's lives and property.
However, as the storm changed its course, it was assured that 700 million cubic feet (mmcfd) of LNG would be available by 4:00pm, and 1,000 mmcfd by night from the two floating LNG terminals.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said in a circular on Sunday (May 26) afternoon that if any post in Rural Electrification Board (REB) and West Zone Power Distribution Company in the Khulna and Barisal regions is vacant, an officer has to be assigned as soon as possible.
The general public has been urged to be careful not to touch power lines severed due to storms or other reasons and to contact the nearest power office as soon as possible if they see a severed power line.
