Damage in Cyclone Remal estimated at Tk7000 cr
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohibur Rahman said that the government has so far estimated the losses caused by cyclone Remal at Tk7000 crore.
He said: "The overall damage report will be handed over to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday."
He delivered the information while speaking at a dialogue titled, “Government preparedness to tackle natural disasters’ at the secretariat on Wednesday.
Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters’ forum (BSRF) organised the programme. Presided over by BSRF President Fasih Uddin Mahtab, the event was moderated by BSRF General Secretary Masudul Haque.
Informing that an inter-ministerial meeting was held on Tuesday to assess the overall damage, the state minister said: "This is the first initiative I have taken to collect all information regarding the overall damages to hand it over to the prime minister. I will prepare the damage report by today and will place it before the prime minister tomorrow."
"I have got about 90 percent of the account. I will get the rest today," he added.
This time, the embankment experienced major damages while fishery sector in coastal areas have suffered huge losses, he said.
The state minister said that numerous houses and establishments have also suffered damages in the cyclone.
