Daughter surrenders after killing father in Savar

A daughter surrendered to police via a 999 call after killing her father in Savar municipality.

The incident took place around 4.00am on Thursday (May 8) at Noor Villa, the residence of Abdul Kader, in the Majidpur Kanthalbagan area of Ward No. 7 in the municipality.

Later that morning, police arrested 23-year-old Jannat Jahan Shifa.

The deceased, Abdur Sattar (56), was the son of the late Abdur Rashid from Bhaga village under Singra Police Station in Natore district.

Police stated that, according to the daughter’s confession, Jannat mixed sleeping pills into her father’s rice the night before. Once Abdur Sattar fell asleep, she allegedly killed him with a sharp weapon around 4.00am.

Earlier in 2022, Jannat had filed a rape case against her father at Singra Police Station, for which he served a lengthy prison sentence. After his release, the two moved to Savar and began living together in a rented house. However, their relationship remained strained due to the history of the case.

Jewel Miah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Model Police Station, said, “The daughter stabbed her father to death and then called 999 to report the incident. Police visited the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue in Dhaka for an autopsy.”

"Abdur Sattar had previously served time in prison for raping his daughter and that preparations are underway to file a case in connection with the killing," he added.
