DB Chief discloses plot formulated 2-3 months ago to assassinate MP Anar
The chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Additional Commissioner Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid, revealed that the plot to assassinate MP Anwarul Azim Anar had been in the works for two to three months. With heightened police presence in Dhaka, Kolkata was selected as the site for the planned murder.
He disclosed the information with reporters at the DB office in the capital on Thursday afternoon.
The DB chief disclosed that the initial scheme to assassinate MP Anwarul Azim Anar was formulated in two residences within the capital, two to three months earlier. Initially targeting Dhaka for the crime, the perpetrators shifted their plan to Kolkata due to rigorous surveillance by the Bangladesh police.
Harun-Or-Rashid said, "We have arrested three in this connection, while several others are currently under surveillance. Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, the main mastermind behind the murder, brought his girlfriend to that flat in Kolkata on April 30. Following a brief stay, he returned to Bangladesh."
Notably, Anwarul Azim Anar, the Member of Parliament from Jhenaidah-4, was assassinated on Wednesday, May 22, in a duplex apartment within Kolkata's Newtown district. However, authorities stated that his body was not found at the scene.
