Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Ashraf Ahmed called for automation in port operations, improved logistics facilities, and better coordination among government agencies to enhance Bangladesh's trade efficiency.

“Automation in port operations, increasing logistics facilities, improving coordination of related government agencies, improving balance of payment conditions, increasing foreign reserves and rationally reducing the interest rate of bank loans are very important,” he said.

Ashraf Ahmed made these remarks during a discussion titled “Easing the Business System: An International Trade Perspective,” held at the DCCI in the capital today.

He also highlighted challenges faced by the private sector, including currency devaluation, high inflation, and procedural complications at customs and ports.

Ahmed emphasized that the lack of automation and insufficient testing facilities waste time in import/export processes, hindering competitiveness. He stressed the need for modernization in ports to meet the government's export target of $57.5 billion for the fiscal year 2025, and called for increased training for C&F agents and port staff.

Member (Finance) of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh S M Lablur Rahman, Member (Harbor & Marine) of Chittagong Port Authority Commodore M Fazlur Rahman, Deputy Secretary (Director, Traffic) of Mongla Port Authority Md. Kamal Hossain, Joint Secretary (WTO Wing), Ministry of Commerce Dr. Farhana Iris and Superintendent Engineer of Bangladesh Land Port Authority, Md.
