Death row convict in Humayun Azad murder case arrested
The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Police on Monday (April 8) arrested a fugitive death-row convict in a case filed over the murder of intellectual and writer Professor Humayun Azad in 2004.
The arrestee has been identified as Nur Mohammad alias Shamim. He is a leader of Jama'atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh.
ATU Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nadia Jui confirmed the matter on Tuesday.
She said, "JMB leader Noor Mohammad alias Shamim, who directly attacked Professor Humayun Azad at the 2004 book fair and was sentenced to death in the murder case, was arrested by the ATU. He had stabbed Humayun Azad with a machete. Later Professor Humayun Azad died in Germany."
"A press briefing will be held later in this regard," she added.
