Death toll in Gazipur gas cylinder explosion rises to 5
In a gas cylinder explosion in Gazipur's Joydebpur, 10-year-old Tanzila Akter died from burn injuries. She passed away at 11.00pm on Sunday while being treated at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
This brings the total death toll from the gas cylinder explosion to five.
The victims who lost their lives in the explosion were Sima Akter (30), Parveen Akter (35), her one-year-old son Ayan, Taslima Begum (30), and her daughter Tanzila (10). They were all members of the same family.
Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident medical officer at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed the incident, stating, "Five people, including a child, were brought here with burn injuries from the Joydebpur area of Gazipur. Tanila passed away at 11 PM on Sunday (April 4) while being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). 90% of her body was burned. Earlier, Sima, Taslima, Ayan, and Parvin had died. With Tanzila's passing, all five burn victims have now died."
The gas cylinder explosion took place around 7.00pm on April 27 in the Mogorkhal area of Joydebpur. The victims were rescued and transported to the emergency department of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute around 10:45pm that same night.
