Decision to rename Sugandha Beach as Bangabandhu Beach cancelled
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has backtracked from its earlier decision of renaming the Sugandha Beach in Cox's Bazar as Bangabandhu Beach.
On February 19, the ministry issued a notification renaming the Sugandha Beach as Bangabandhu Beach and naming the area between Sugandha Beach and Kalatoli as 'Muktijoddha Beach'.
However, the liberation war ministry on Sunday (February 25) ordered the cancellation of the previous directive, according to a press release signed by assistant secretary to the ministry Md Saheb Uddin.
According to the press release, the ministry has requested not to take any action based on its earlier decision. As such, the notification issued earlier has to be considered cancelled.
Mentionable, Chairman of the central command council of Muktijoddah Santan Sangsad Solaiman Miah applied to rename the Sugandha Beach in the name of Bangabandhu.
Later, a decision was made at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on the liberation war ministry. The ministry issued the February 19 notification in response to a recommendation of the parliamentary standing committee.
