Deep depression may weaken into low pressure
The deep depression that formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to weaken into a low-pressure today, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
According to the Bangladesh Meteorolocal Department, the system developed over Satkhira and surrounding regions on Thursday night and is expected to move towards Tangail and its nearby areas by Friday morning before gradually shifting northeast toward Sylhet.
Meteorologist Shahanaz Sultana said, "Under the influence of this weather system, heavy rainfall is likely to continue throughout the day and persist over the next four days."
Another Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid said, "While there is no threat of a cyclone, the active monsoon conditions, which entered Bangladesh through Teknaf on May 24, have intensified the rainfall and disrupted normal life across several regions."
The southwest monsoon has already advanced into Barishal, Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Dhaka, and Rangpur divisions. As a result, many areas are experiencing light to moderate rain and thundershowers with gusty winds, and some places may see moderate to very heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning today. Temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
On Saturday, most areas of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, along with many parts of Dhaka, Barisal, and Khulna divisions, are likely to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thundershowers and gusty winds. Some areas may also see moderate to heavy rainfall.
On Sunday, light to moderate rain and thundershowers with gusty winds are expected in many parts of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, as well as in some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barisal divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also likely in several areas, especially in Chattogram and Sylhet. Additionally, a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barisal divisions may experience light to moderate rain and thundershowers.
Coastal districts have been particularly affected, with continuous rain and tidal surges causing extensive flooding. Villages across Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Bhola, Barguna, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Bagerhat, Khulna, and Satkhira have gone underwater due to tidal waves rising 1 to 3 feet above normal levels. Heavy rainfall, overflowing rivers, and gusty winds have added to the misery of residents, with many areas submerged since Thursday night.
