Defaulted loans in banking sector hits Tk3.45 lakh crore
The defaulted loans of the country's banking sector have exceeded at least 3 lakh 45 thousand 7 hundred 67 crore taka. Such information has emerged in the latest report of Bangladesh Bank. Which is 20.2 percent of the total disbursed loans. Which was more than 2 lakh 84 thousand crore taka in September, which is 16.93% of the total disbursed loans.
According to the latest data of Bangladesh Bank, the defaulted loan rate in the banking sector was 9% at the end of 2023. The total amount of loans disbursed in the banking sector at the end of 2024 was 17 lakh crore taka. This year, defaulted loans were 11.11% till March. Which increased to 12.56% in June. Earlier, the amount of defaulted loans in September was 2 lakh 85 thousand crore taka. As a result, defaulted loans increased by 45 thousand crore taka in the last three months. And this loan has increased at least 16 times in the last 15 years. And at the end of December, the defaulted loans of state-owned banks were 42.83%. Which was 40.35% on 30 September. At the end of the year, public sector banks exceeded the same period by 15.22%, which was 18.88% in the September period.
Regarding the maater Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H. Mansur said that loan default rate was previously shown as low. As a result, this percentage of the default loan rate will increase further.
According to the latest data, the reserves are now in a positive trend. As of Tuesday, according to the IMF's BPM Six, the reserves are more than $21 billion. In addition, according to Bangladesh Bank, $26.2 billion.
