Delhi's statement on Bangladesh's internal affairs is unexpected: Foreign Ministry
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rafiqul Alam, has commented that New Delhi's statement on Bangladesh's internal affairs is unexpected and undesirable.
He made this comment on Sunday (February 9) when asked about the statement from India's Ministry of External Affairs regarding the demolition of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's house at 32 Dhanmondi on February 5.
On February 6, India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, said, "It is extremely unfortunate that the historic residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a symbol of the heroic resistance of the people of Bangladesh, was destroyed on February 5. Those who value the struggle for independence that nurtures Bengali identity and pride are aware of the significance of this residence in Bangladesh’s national consciousness. This destruction should be strongly condemned."
In a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spokesperson Rafiqul Alam stated that the interim government of Bangladesh has taken note of the statement. He added that such comments on Bangladesh's internal affairs are unexpected and undesirable.
"We have also witnessed various unexpected situations in neighboring countries. However, Bangladesh does not make statements on the internal matters of other countries. Bangladesh expects the same from other nations as well," he remarked.
