Md Delwar Hossain Pasha has been declared the uncontested winner of the race for Singra Upazila Parishad chairman in Natore.
District Returning Officer Abdul Latif Sheikh declared Delwar as chairman after the allotment of election symbols among the candidates in the Upazila council polls on Tuesday.
Abdul Latif Sheikh said, "Elections will be held in Sadar, Naldanga and Singra upazila parishads of Natore in the first phase on May 8. There is no candidate other than Delwar Hossain for the post of Singra Upazila Chairman, therefore Delwar Hossain was declared elected unopposed. However, the voting for the post of Vice Chairman will be held on the scheduled date."
Earlier, two candidates submitted nomination papers for the post of chairman in Singra Upazila Parishad election. After scrutiny, the returning officer declared the nomination papers of both candidates, Lutful Habib Rubel and Delwar Hossain, to be valid.
However, Lutful Habib Rubel, who is the brother-in-law of State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak, withdrew his candidacy from the Singra Upazila Parishad election.on Sunday (April 21). As a result, the path was cleared for chairman candidate Delwar Hossain to be elected unopposed.
