DGHS issues 12-point directive to ensure uninterrupted medical care during Eid

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued a set of 12 directives to both public and private hospitals, aimed at guaranteeing continuous medical care throughout the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday period.

The information was disclosed in a notification signed by Dr. Abu Hossain Md. Moinul Ahsan, Director of Hospitals and Clinics on Sunday (March 31).

According to the notification, this year, there is a possibility of a long holiday due to Shab-e-qadr, Eid-ul-Fitr, Bengali New Year and weekends.

The directions are-

1) Employees are encouraged to take leave gradually before and after Eid to ensure sufficient staffing levels.

2) Heads of the institutions will prioritise emergency services and public interest when granting leave.

3) During the Eid holidays, the Civil Surgeon, through communication with the Divisional Directors, is authorized to coordinate the required manpower exclusively within his district.

4) The full-time presence of a doctor in the emergency department should be ensured.

5) Emergency departments, labor rooms, emergency operation theatres should be kept open round the clock.

6) Daily supervision will be done by Unit Heads in Intra Division. Emergency lab and X-ray services should be kept open round the clock in medical college hospitals, specialized hospitals, district headquarters hospitals and upazila health complexes.

7) Hospitals will stock sufficient medicine, IV fluids, chemical re-agents, surgical supplies for the holiday period.

8) Ambulance service should be kept open round the clock.

9) Hospital heads will notify local authorities to enhance hospital security and will communicate regularly with staff working during the holidays, the directions stated.

10) Heads of organizations and heads of various departments will regularly communicate with the officers and employees providing holiday services and exchange greetings on Eid day.

11) If the head of the institution takes leave, they must designate a responsible person following proper procedures.

12) The institution's chief will ensure that patients receive quality food on Eid day.
