Dhanmondi hawkers market has been declared 'highly risky' by fire service and DSCC due to lack of fire safety measures.

The announcement was made after the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mobile court raided the market on Wednesday (March 20).

Executive Magistrate Jahangir Alam, who led the operation, said that the market has been declared 'highly risky' after discussing with the fire service officials.

He said that the market did not have proper fire safety measures including fire extinguishers.

He further said, “We have fined the market owner association Tk 1 lakh and given them time till a week after Eid-ul-Fitr. I have asked to arrange necessary equipment and take adequate fire safety measures during this period.”

As part of the regular inspection drive, the mobile court conducted the raid in Newmarket area of the capital.

Jahangir Alam said the mobile court visited Nur Mansion Market and Banalata kitchen market in that area. Nur Mansion Shop Owners Association has been given 10 instructions regarding fire safety.
