The Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) has announced an exciting opportunity for young filmmakers to win a total of Tk 10 lakh through the fourth West Meets East Screenplay Lab.

This initiative invites filmmakers from all Asian countries to submit their screenplays and film proposals for consideration.

Ahmed Muztaba Jamal, the director of the DIFF, shared that the festival has received a positive response and emphasised the importance of highlighting young filmmakers and promoting their work on an international platform. "This initiative is to bring young filmmakers into the spotlight and make their creations known worldwide. Anyone can participate by submitting a screenplay,” he said.

The Film Haat, part of the Dhaka International Film Festival, will be held from January 11 to 14 next year. The process for submitting screenplays begins on April 1 via the festival’s official website.

After submission, 10 projects will be initially shortlisted. These selected filmmakers will present their projects to a panel of international judges, and three winning screenplays will be awarded. The first-place screenplay will receive Tk 500,000, second place will earn Tk 300,000, and third place will win Tk 200,000.

To submit, filmmakers must provide a story logline, summary, director’s note, treatment, and a director’s profile. If selected, the full screenplay must be submitted, with a minimum length of 70 minutes.

The 24th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival will take place from January 10 to 18 next year.
