Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman has warned that hijacking case will be filed, if needed, against those who take cows from one to another market.

He said this to reporters emerging out of a meeting with lessees of cattle markets in Dhaka at the DMP headquarters in the capital on Tuesday (June 4).

The DMP commissioner said, “Cattle of one market cannot be taken to another market in Dhaka. If someone forcibly takes cows to any market, which belong to another market, a hijacking case will be filed against the perpetrators.”

He said, “If anyone tries to take cows belonging to one market to another, the police will take appropriate action in this regard. Traders who bring cows from outside Dhaka will write the name of the cattle market in front of the truck.”

Habibur Rahman said, “The coordination between those who will work at the cattle markets in Dhaka needs to be well. There will be district administration, city corporation magistrate and police magistrate. They should work coordinately. Nineteen coordination meetings have to be organized for the 19 cattle markets in Dhaka. Police OC, DC and traffic policemen will coordinate.”

The DMP Commissioner suggested opening WhatsApp group for this.

“The WhatsApp groups would have to be opened separately for 19 cattle markets. Each group will have representatives from police, city corporation, district administration, consumer rights organisation, and the lessees of the cattle markets. It can solve any problem in the fastest time,” he said.

In addition, the Dhaka police chief said, the DB teams will be aware of the ‘Ogyan Party’ and ‘Malm Party’ in the markets of sacrificial animals. If such a person is found in the market and its adjacent areas he will be immediately brought under the law. In this case the people related to the cattle markets will assist the police with information.

“The police will remain present 24 hours in the markets. Traders can take the help of the police during the transactions of large sums of money,” he added.
