DMP warns of legal action over road blockades
Kh Mahid Uddin, Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations), has issued a warning that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will act against any road blockades.
The senior police officer noted on Thursday that recent quota reform protests had caused significant disruptions in the capital, mentioning that the police had thus far allowed the movement to proceed.
“However, any further road blockades will be dealt with according to the law,” he announced during a press conference.
He said, "They have been on the streets for the past 10 days. We have taken their issues into consideration. However, if they disregard our appeal now, it will constitute a crime."
He added, "We empathize with and care for the students. Nevertheless, we must uphold the High Court's respect. We urge refraining from organizing events that cause hardship to the public."
