Dortmund stun PSG to clinch final spot
Borussia Dortmund clinched their place in the Champions League final after pulling off the perfect heist to beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 (2-0 on aggregate) at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.
Dortmund arrived in Paris with a slender one-goal advantage from the first leg in Germany and named an unchanged starting XI. Edin Terzic's men executed a clear gameplan from the first whistle, protecting their 18-yard box with a low block and hitting PSG on the counter.
The home side dominated the ball for much of the first half, but struggled to find way to penetrate the resolute Dortmund backline. In fact, it was actually the Bundesliga outfit that went closest to taking the lead when full-back Julian Ryerson latched onto a lay-off from Niclas Fullkrug but fired into the side netting.
Dortmund has reached the Champions League final after nearly a decade since their last appearance in the 2012-2013 season. The decisive moment came in the second leg when Mats Hummels netted the sole goal in the 50th minute. Following that, neither side managed to find the back of the net, sealing Dortmund's path to the final.
This loss confirms PSG's elimination from the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund will await the outcome of the Bayern Munich or Real Madrid match to determine their opponent in the final.
