“Dr Yunus suffering consequences of sin”
Grameen Bank's chief legal advisor Masud Akhtar has said that Grameen Bank's founder and Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus is suffering the consequences of sin.
He (Yunus) is suffering the consequences of cheating 1.05 crore members of Grameen Bank, he told reporters in front of the Supreme Court Annex Building on Monday (June 3).
Masud Akhtar said, “Yunus was involved in fraudulent activities against the customers of the bank. He did not take any personal or family benefits, but provided work orders worth hundreds of crores of taka to his printing press at a rate 30-40 percent higher than normal.”
He also alleged that Dr Yunus has kept a general manager of the bank under house arrest protesting these activities.
Masud said Yunus has been accused of corruption since 1997. Even after leaving Grameen Bank in 2011, Yunus did not allow his corruption to be exposed; because his associates continued to run the bank. However, a 2020 audit revealed rampant corruption. More incriminating evidence has been revealed in 2023.
Grameen Bank's chief legal advisor also said, "The bank has no grudge against the individual Yunus. Our complaint is about his actions and misdeeds. Dr Yunus is greedy. Nothing what we are alleging is fake. He cheated the customers of Grameen Bank. He is suffering the consequences of that sin.”
