The body of 24-year-old Dhaka University (DU) student Anika Meherunnesa Sahi was recovered hanging in a girls' dormitory on Elephant Road, Dhaka. Following the incident, the police have taken a BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) student into custody for questioning.

The incident occurred around 11.00 pm on Sunday night in a room on the 8th floor of the Maksud Tower. Anika was later rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 1:45 am on Monday in an unconscious state, where doctors declared her dead.

It is known that Anika was a student of the Management Department at DU, and she was the daughter of Firoz Hossain from Notunhat village in Joypurhat.

SI Biraj Mistri of Newmarket Police Station said, "The unconscious body of the student was found in a room on the 8th floor of Maksud Tower. After being taken to Dhaka Medical College, the doctor declared her dead."

"Her roommates informed us about the incident. After speaking with them, we learned that the student might have taken this extreme step due to a relationship-related conflict. A BUET student has been taken into custody for questioning," he added.

The body has been sent to Dhaka Medical Morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Legal proceedings are ongoing.
