DU student dies drowning in swimming pool
A student of Dhaka University (DU) died drowning in the swimming pool of the university today (April 22).
The deceased has been identified as Soad Haque (19). He was a first year student of philosophy department.
The incident took place at the swimming pool of the physical education centre of DU around 1:45pm. Later, he was rescued and rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) around 2:00pm where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Md Sohag, a classmate who brought Soad to the hospital, said that many students of DU were taking a bath in the swimming pool at noon. Many people were swimming there from one side to the other side of the swimming pool.
“At one time, I saw many people thronging beside the swimming pool. When I went forward, I found out that Soad had drowned in the water. He was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical where doctors declared Soad dead,” Sohag said.
DMCH police camp’s Assistant in-charge Md Masud said, “Soad's body has been kept in the morgue. The incident is being investigated by the Shahbag police station.”
In this regard, DU Proctor Professor Md Maksudur Rahman told the media, "Our student Soad is no more. His medical report is yet to come. The exact cause of death will be known after receiving the medical report.”
