DU suspends Monday's classes, exams after clashes
Due to clashes between Dhaka University (DU) students and those from the seven affiliated colleges, the Dhaka University administration has announced the suspension of all classes and exams for Monday.
DU Proctor, Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, confirmed the decision to the media early Monday (1.40 am).
Regarding the matter, the DU Proctor said, "We are deeply saddened by the ongoing situation. In an administrative meeting, it was decided to suspend all classes and exams of Dhaka University for Monday. A meeting with the principals of the seven colleges has been called tomorrow. We hope for a peaceful resolution of the issue through discussions with all parties."
Earlier, students of the seven colleges clashed with DU students while attempting to surround the DU Pro-Vice Chancellor’s (Education) residence. After an hour of relative calm, clashes resumed around 1:00 am, with both groups throwing bricks and stones at each other. At one point, DU students launched a unified attack on the students of the seven colleges. However, they were unable to advance as the seven college students resisted.
To bring the situation under control, police fired sound grenades and tear gas at Nilkhet intersection.
