The Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) has expressed concern and strongly condemned and protested the filing of murder cases against nine journalists eight months after the July movement.

President of a faction of DUJ Sajjad Alam Khan Topu and general secretary Akhtar Hossain expressed this concern in a statement on Thursday (April 3), says a press release.

In the statement, the leaders said that filing a series of cases against journalists without specific charges is a threat to free expression. If cases continue to be filed against professional journalists in this manner, the culture of fear will never be eradicated from this profession.

They demanded the immediate withdrawal of the cases filed against journalists.

It is worth mentioning that a case was filed against Sheikh Hasina and 165 others at Paltan Police Station on March 16 on charges of inciting the killing of protesters in Kakrail in July. The names of nine journalists were included as accused.

Meanwhile, in the same statement, the President and General Secretary of DUJ strongly condemned and protested the arrest of Mahmud Hasan, General Secretary of Journalists Union Kushtia.
