Earthquake shakes Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh
An earthquake was felt in Dhaka and multiple areas of Bangladesh at 1:23 am on Thursday (January 24), triggering panic as powerful tremors shook buildings in the capital.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was in Wazing, Manipur, India. It had a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale and a depth of 126 kilometers. The tremors were also felt in neighboring Myanmar.
Several earthquakes have been reported this month. On January 3, a moderate earthquake occurred with its epicenter 482 kilometers from Dhaka. A more intense earthquake was recorded on January 7. Additionally, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake was felt on January 21, originating from the Khasi Hills in Meghalaya, India.
