Ekushey holds spiritual connection for me, as my mother is language fighter: CJ
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed said that the fundamental and one of the main inspirations for the post-71 state formation is Ekushey (February 21). He stated that Ekushey is the primary pillar of Bengali identity.
He made these remarks on Friday (February 21) after laying a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar early Friday (February 21)
He said, "I have a deep spiritual connection with Ekushey. My mother was a language fighter, a daughter of the language movement."
The Chief Justice's mother, Professor Sufia Ahmed, Bangladesh's first female national professor, was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2002 for her contributions to the Language Movement. In 1952, while a second-year student in the Department of Islam and Culture at Dhaka University, she actively participated in the movement and was among those who defied the government's ban on February 21 by violating Section 144.
On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, after the President and Chief Advisor paid deep tribute to the language martyrs at the Shaheed Minar in the early hours of Friday, the Chief Justice of Bangladesh and judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions also paid their respects.
After laying the wreath, they stood in silent homage for a while, honoring the martyrs and reaffirming their commitment to preserving the glorious tradition of the language movement.
