Election date for 152 upazilas announced

The Election Commission (EC) has announced the election schedule for the uparishad parishad polls. In the first phase of upazila parishad polls, elections will be held in 152 upazilas on May 8.

Earlier, the decision was made at a meeting of the Election Commission held at Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Thursday (March 21) morning, with Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal in the chair.

As per the schedule, the last day for submission of nomination papers is April 15, scrutiny of submitted nomination papers will be on April 17 and the last day for withdrawal of nomination is April 22. Finally, the election symbols will be allocated on April 23.

According to the EC, voting will be held through electronic voting machines (EVMs) in 22 out of 152 upazilas and in the rest of the upazilas through ballots.

The EC also said that the second phase of voting will be held on May 23, the third on May 29, and the last phase on June 5.
