Elections without reforms will not fulfill people's desire: Jamaat Ameer
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that elections before reforms will not fulfill people's desire.
He said this after the meeting with the interim government's Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus in front of Jamuna on Saturday (May 24) night.
Shafiqur Rahman said: "We have said that two things need to be clarified. One - when will the elections be held? The elections need to be held at a comfortable time without causing any major suffering to the people within the time frame you have given. Number two, I said that before this election, some visible process of reforms and justice must come before the people."
He said: "If an election is held without completing the reforms, the people will not be able to fulfill their expectations in this election. Moreover, it is not possible to do all the reforms now. They have only touched on five specific issues. This much needs to be settled satisfactorily."
Jamaat Ameer was accompanied by Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, and National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz.
