Elevated railway from Bhanga to Payra on cards: Railway minister
The government will construct an elevated railway from Bhanga in Faridpur via Barshal to Payra Port in Patuakhali.
Railway Minister Zillul Hakim announced the construction of this railway after inaugurating the new train on Dhaka-Bhanga-Rajbari route at a programme in the capital on Saturday (April 4).
He said that a new train line will be launched from Bhanga in Faridpur via Khulna to Benapole in Jashore within two months.
Regarding the plan to build a railway in Barisal, the Railway Minister said, “The government will build an elevated rail line to carry the railway to Barishal. The soil in this region is not good, so overland trains will not be suitable here. That is why the entire railway line will be elevated. This route will connect eight districts of the region.”
The minister said the railway is the cheapest mode of transport. In order to deliver it to people's doorsteps, as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's plan, the new train line from Bhanga in Faridpur via Khulna to Benapole in Jashore will be launched within the next two months. Once these two lines are operational, the importance of different areas including Bhanga and Shibchar will increase a lot.
