Embezzlement Case: Charge framed against Dr Muhammad Yunus
A Dhaka court has framed charges against 14 people, including Grameen Telecom Chairman Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, in a case filed over the embezzlement of around Tk25 crore from dividends for the company’s employees.
Judge Syed Arafat Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court 4 issued the order on Wednesday (June 12), denying the accused's plea for the dismissal of charges.
The judge, in the order, said the allegations against Dr. Yunus and others have been prima facie established, leading to the framing of charges against them. Furthermore, accusations of money embezzlement and smuggling have been substantiated. The next hearing is scheduled for July 15.
Notably, on May 30, 2023, the ACC lodged a case against 13 individuals, including Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, for embezzling Tk 252.2 million from Grameen Telecom's workers' welfare fund.
