Eminent writer Hossainuddin Hossain passes away
Bangla Academy Literary Award winning essayist, novelist and researcher Hossainuddin Hossain has passed away.
Shahnaz Rahana Ratna, the younger daughter of the eminent writer confirmed.
He breathed his last on Monday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Jashore Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
Earlier, he had been diagnosed with brain haemorrhage and was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital. Later on Thursday, he was put under life support as his condition deteriorated.
Ratna said that in 2019, her father underwent open heart surgery and also suffered due to gallbladder stone. Apart from this he was suffering from kidney problem.
Hossainuddin Hossain was born on February 28, 1941 in Krishnanagar village of Jhikargacha upazila of Jashore. After completing his primary education in his village, he passed matriculation in 1957 from Jhikargacha English High School. He completed higher secondary education in 1959.
In 1955, his first poem was published in the Kolkata daily Loksebak. Later, his various articles, stories, poems started appearing in different newspapers of Dhaka and Kolkata.
In 1971, he also participated in the liberation war of Bangladesh. Among his notable works are Nashto Manush, Amrita Baideshik, People of Sadhuhati, Mice and Men, Flood and a Noah, Tradition Modernity and Ahsan Habib, Rebellion of Bengal, Memories of Liberation , Folklore Legends, Banbhumi and Other Stories, Ananya Rabindranath etc.
He received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2021 for his special contribution in the field of essay and research.
