Emir of Qatar sits for talks with PM

The visiting Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is taking part in a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.  The meeting started on Tuesday (April 23) morning at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).


Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted him with flowers at the Tiger Gate when he reached the PMO at Tejgaon in the capital at 10:30am.

Later, the two leaders held a private meeting at Shimul Hall of the PMO.

After the meeting, a delegation level discussion will be held at Chameli Hall at PMO.

A number of MoUs will be signed between the two countries at Karabi Hall at the office. The two leaders will be present there and will attend a joint press conference. The Emir of Qatar will leave the PMO after signing the visitor’s book there.

During the visit of the Emir of Qatar, six agreements and five memorandums of understanding (MOU) will be signed between the two countries. The agreements include avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion, cooperation in legal matters, maritime transport, development and protection of mutual investments, transfer of convicts and establishment of a joint trade council. Besides, the five MoUs include cooperation in manpower, higher education and scientific research and assistance in diplomatic training.

Earlier, the emir of Qatar arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit yesterday afternoon. President Mohammad Sahabuddin welcomed the emir with a bouquet of flowers at the airport. The emir was given a red carpet reception and a guard of honour.
