Establishing ‘July 36 University’ with 7 colleges proposed

The government is planning to establish a separate university for seven government colleges in the capital after separating from the affiliation with Dhaka University (DU).

The committee led by University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor SMA Fayez has proposed the name 'July 36 University'.

Professor Fayez and three members of the committee met with Education Advisor Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud on Thursday (January 30). The name was proposed there.

Professor Fayez said that among the few names, the name 'July 36 University' has particularly attracted them. The education adviser has also praised this name. However, whatever the students say will be the final word.

These seven government colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Women's College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women's College, Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College. There are about two lakh students and more than 1,000 teachers in these colleges.

The meeting also discussed the formation of interim administrations for these seven colleges.
