Evaly's Rassel, Shamima indicted in cheque bounce case
A Dhaka court has framed charges against Evaly Chairman Shamima Nasrin and her husband and company Managing Director (MD) Mohammad Rassel in a cheque bounce case.
Dhaka Sixth Joint Metropolitan Session Judge Humayun kabir passed the order on Thursday as the accused were not present during the hearing.
The court also arrest warrant against them in the case.
In 2021, the case was filed with the court by a person named Tofazzal Hossain.
According to the case statement, Tofazzal Hossain placed an order for the purchase of a motorcycle on February 26, 2021 by paying Tk149, 635 on behalf of the accused's company Evaly.com Limited, after seeing an offer to sell motorcycles at a special discount online (evaly.com).
The plaintiff was supposed to deliver the motorcycle within 45 days of the order. If not, the company will pay Tk 250,000 to the buyer as the price of the motorcycle. As the defendants could not deliver the motorcycle even after the stipulated time, on June 28 of that year, a City Bank cheque of Tk250,000 was signed by Senior Manager Finance and Manager Finance and issued to the plaintiff on behalf of Evely.com Limited. The cheque was dishonored. Later, the plaintiff sent a legal notice to the defendants and urged them to pay the amount within 30 days. However, as they did not pay the amount and the plaintiff was forced to file a case.
