Fakhrul urges govt to take steps to bring back Hasina for trial
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, General Secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has urged the interim government to take steps to bring back Sheikh Hasina from India to stand for trial.
“We have told the Indian government not to provide shelter to a murderer who has committed genocide and is implicated in numerous murder cases. They have not responded to us. We have told the interim government to immediately send a letter to India, asking them to return and bring Sheikh Hasina, who has destroyed the country, to justice,” he said while speaking at a workers’ rally organized by the Gazipur District and City Shramik Dal at Konabari Degree College ground on Saturday.
He claimed that even though Hasina has fled the country, yet her influence continues to destabilize the nation. “Her ghost remains in the country, attempting to create instability,” he said.
He also highlighted Dr Yunus, who is respected globally, forming a government with distinguished citizens, and said that the BNP has called for freeing the country from the “trash” of the Awami League while holding elections in a reasonable timeframe.
“We want to vote and elect a government and parliament through the electoral process,” he said.
He also urged party members and activists to unite in protecting the garment industry, emphasizing that 5 million people rely on this sector for their livelihoods, which significantly contributes to the country’s foreign earnings. “We must resist these forces together,” he added.
