Fatal house fire claims life of elderly woman in Magura

A fire in Charpara village, Mohammadpur upazila of Magura district, claimed the life of a 75-year-old woman last night.

Piari Begum, the victim, had been residing with her daughter's family in Charpara village for the past ten years.

According to local residents, a fire broke out around 8.00 pm at the residence of Akkas Mollah, who is Begum's son-in-law, in Charpara village. The blaze rapidly engulfed the home, taking the family by surprise. While the other members of the family were able to escape, Begum remained trapped inside and tragically lost her life at the scene.

The fire also caused significant damage to belongings and property within the houses.

Md. Borhanuzzaman, the Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, stated that initial investigations indicate the fire likely originated from the kitchen. A formal case has been registered as investigations persist to ascertain the precise cause of the fire.
