A female police constable’s body was recovered from an apartment in the Kamalapur area of Kushtia city on Wednesday evening.

The deceased was identified as Rubina Khatun (28), a constable working in the General Record Office (GRO) of the Kushtia court.

According to the police, Rubina lived with her husband and two children in a rented apartment on the third floor of a building in the Kamalapur area. On Wednesday, both Rubina and her husband were at home while their children were away on holiday. Throughout the day, Rubina's colleagues repeatedly tried calling her mobile phone but received no response. Concerned, they alerted a neighbor in the adjacent flat. The neighbor's wife then informed Rubina's husband, Alal, about the situation. Alal explained that Rubina had been upset since morning due to illness and had locked herself inside the house.

Later in the evening, Rubina's colleagues arrived and knocked on the door, but there was no response. Growing concerned, they broke down the door and discovered Rubina hanging from the ceiling fan and immediately informed the police.

Shihabur Rahman Shihab, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, said,"Preliminary investigations suggest the incident could be a suicide. The body has been sent to Kushtia General Hospital for post-mortem. The cause of death will be confirmed once the autopsy report is available."
