Female vice-chairman candidate reportedly goes missing while campaigning in Bijoynagar upazila under Brahmanbaria district.
According to family members, Preeti Khandkar Halima, contesting with Padma Flower symbol, went missing on Tuesday afternoon while campaigning in Harshpur's Rishipara.
They alleged that opponents are involved in the disappearance of the female candidate.
Later, her husband Masud Khandkar filed a GD in this regard with Bijoynagar Police Station on Tuesday night.
Bijoynagar Police Station OC Asadul Islam said that it has been reported that the female candidate went out to voting campaign along with two other women at Rishipara on Tuesday afternoon. Her female companions came out of the area a few moments later and were waiting outside for Preeti. At one stage, the went inside the area and found Preeti nowhere.
"I visited the area with Preeti's husband at night and talked with locals. Locals confirmed that she went their in the afternoon. We are investigating the matter," he added.
In this regard, Assistant Returning Officer and UNO Syed Mahabubul Haque told the media that the husband of the candidate informed him about the disappearance.
The Upazila elections is set to be held on June 5.
