Fiber cable breaks in Singapore, internet slows in country
The connection of the country's second submarine cable (SEA-ME-WE-5) has been stopped. As a result, internet services are being disrupted in the country.
Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company said that this situation has arisen due to fiber cable breaking in Singapore.
Sources said the problem started after 12:00 pm on Friday (April 18). As a result, customers including internet service providers are getting slow internet.
Mirza Kamal Ahmed, managing director of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company, said, "With SIMUI-5, 1,600 Gbps bandwidth is provided in the country. All of it is closed now. We are trying to make an alternative arrangement with SEA-ME-WE -4 (first submarine cable). The fiber cable break in Singapore has created a similar situation in Bangladesh as well as in several other countries. It will take two-three days to restore the bandwidth by repairing the cable.”
