The fire in the secretariat has been brought under control after more than six hours. 19 units of the fire service worked to douse the fire. The fire has burnt down the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth floors of building number 7. Important national documents have been damaged.

Brigadier General Muhammad Zahed Kamal, Director General (DG) of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, said that the fire spread quickly due to the interior decoration and electrical lines inside the secretariat.

The DG said that 19 of their units and 211 fire personnel worked to control the fire. However, due to space constraints, 10 units were able to work actively.

It is thought that the sixth and seventh floors have been damaged the most. Moreover, most of the floors were damaged. Initially, the fire service personnel think that the fire spread quickly through the interior decoration and electrical lines.

Witnesses said the fire spread to the east, west and middle of the Secretariat building number seven at the same time.

When asked whether the simultaneous fire in three places was mysterious, the Fire Service DG told Views Bangladesh, "We have come to know that fires have been seen at three places simultaneously. This can happen many times. It can happen if there is a short circuit in the power line. However, we will not confirm it now. Details can be given after the investigation is completed. If it is a matter of short circuit, it is on the same line, then it can happen."
