Fire burns 3.5 km area in Kushtia
A terrible fire broke out in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia district on Sunday. Due to this, several thousand acres of arable crops including betel leaf orchard were burnt in an area of about three and a half kilometers. At least 10 houses were also burnt in the incident.
The incident took place at Raita Patharghata village under Bahadurpur union of the upazila.
According to locals, the fire started around 11.00 am and spread in few hundred bighas of betel leaf orchard within 10 minutes. Hundreds of men and women in the area tried their best to douse the fire but could not save crops and houses.
Confirming the matter, Deputy Director of Chuadanga Fire Service Rafikuzzaman said, "The fire was brought under control after about 6 hours of effort. Work is being done to find the source of the fire."
Kushtia Superintendent of Police Abdur Rakib said, "The fire has burnt an area of about 3 and a half kilometers in length and 2 kilometers in width."
"250 members of the police are working to douse the fire and provide full support to the victims," he added.
