A fire broke out at the Medicine Unit of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital in Barishal on Sunday morning. Local news portals said seven units of local Fire Service and Civil Defence stations rushed to the spot after getting the information. The firefighters rushed to the spot around 9:50am, he said, adding that the cause of the fire could not be known immediately. As news of the fire spread, many patients and their relatives left the building in fear.

বরিশালের শের-ই-বাংলা মেডিকেল কলেজ ও হাসপাতালের মেডিসিন ভবনে অগ্নিকাণ্ডের ঘটনা ঘটেছে। আগুন নিয়ন্ত্রণে কাজ করেছে ফায়ার সার্ভিসের সাতটি ইউনিট। রোববার (১৩ অক্টোবর) সকাল ৯টার দিকে এ অগ্নিকাণ্ডের ঘটনা ঘটে। তবে কীভাবে আগুনের সূত্রপাত সম্পর্কে প্রাথমিকভাবে জানা যায়নি। বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন বরিশাল ফায়ার সার্ভিস অ্যান্ড সিভিল ডিফেন্সের সহকারী পরিচালক হেলাল উদ্দিন। তিনি জানান, আগুন নিয়ন্ত্রণে ফায়ার সার্ভিস কাজ করছে। মেডিসিন ইউনিটের ওই কক্ষে রাখা তুলায় আগুন লেগে যাওয়ায় প্রচণ্ড ধোঁয়ার সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। কক্ষে থাকা রোগীদের নিরাপদে সরিয়ে আনার কাজ চলছে। জানা যায়, আগুনের ধোঁয়া পুরো ভবনে ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে। ভবনের ভেতরে থাকা রোগীদের উদ্ধারে কাজ করছে ফায়ার সার্ভিস, আনসার সদস্য ও হাসপাতালের সংশ্লিষ্টরা।
