“First consignment of Indian onion to arrive tonight”
State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu has said that the first consignment of onions imported from India will arrive in Bangladesh by train tonight.
Some 1,650 metric tonnes of onions will come in the first consignment, he said while talking to the journalists after a meeting of the task force on commodity prices and market situation held at the Secretariat on Sunday (March 31).
The state minister said these onions will be sold in the open market in Dhaka and Chattogram at the rate of Tk 40 per kg through Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
He said, “If these onions are sold in the open market in Dhaka and Chattogram, I believe the price of onions will come down in at least 30 districts.”
