Flash flood warning issued for northeastern districts
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) has issued a warning of a flash flood for the people of the country’s northern and northeastern region.
It also made some recommendations to local residents to deal with the imminent threat of the flash flood.
The FFWC, managed by the Bangladesh Water Development Board and the Department of Disaster Management, is closely monitoring the situation and advising to obtain precautionary measures.
According to FFWC, the water level in the rivers in the northeastern districts is rising rapidly, creating risk of flash floods in several districts.
Netrakona, Sunamganj, Kishoreganj and Moulvibazar are at risk of flash floods due to rising water on the banks of several rivers.
In the next 48 hours, the pre-monsoon water flow may cross the river banks in north-eastern border districts including Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj and Habiganj. Residents have been advised to take immediate precautions and prepare for possible evacuation.
Residents can get real-time updates and flood forecasts through BWDB flood app and FFWC website (www.ffwc.gov.bd) and (www.ffwc.gov.bd/flashflood) to stay informed about the latest situation. Local residents can also call hotline 1090 (toll-free) and 01841-002299 for emergency coordination.
The Water Development Board and related authorities have urged residents of flood-prone areas to be vigilant and follow government guidelines to ensure the safety of their communities.
