Former IGP Benazir summoned by ACC
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former IG of Police Benazir Ahmed and his wife and children for questioning on allegations of acquiring illegal wealth. ACC will interrogate Benazir on June 6 and his wife and children on June 9. This information was revealed by the source of the organization on Tuesday (May 28).
Earlier on Monday ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said whether Benazir Ahmed will be arrested depends on the decision of the investigating officers.
On May 23, the court ordered the seizure of 83 documents of Benazir Ahmed's property. An order to block 33 bank accounts was also given. In the meantime, the ACC has started the process of confiscation of these properties.
Then on Sunday (May 26) Benazir Ahmed and his wife and children received an order to seize 119 movable and immovable properties from the court. Apart from this, it has been ordered to block the shares of 23 companies and four luxurious flats in Gulshan which are wholly and partly owned by Benazir Ahmed.
Benazir Ahmed was IGP from 15 April 2020 to 30 September 2022. Prior to this, he served as Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Director General of RAB. The name of Benazir Ahmed is among those who were sanctioned by the United States on the RAB and the former and current RAB officials in December 2021 on the charges of human rights violations. He was then in charge of IGP.
Recently, a national daily of the country claimed that Benazir Ahmed's huge amount of illegal wealth was found. Since then, the former IG of Police has been in a lot of discussion.
