A former councilor of Ward No. 4 of the Khulna City Corporation was shot dead in Jhaubagan at Seagull Point on the Cox's Bazar beach.

Police and witnesses said that Golam Rabbani Tipu, 55, was walking next to a wooden bridge inside Jhaubagan in front of the Seagull Hotel around 8:30 pm on Thursday. At that time, two men on a motorcycle arrived at the scene and shot Golam Rabbani in the head.

At that time, Easy Bike (Tomtom) driver Abdus Salam picked Tipu up on his tomtom and took him to the emergency department of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on duty doctor declared him dead.

Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ilias Khan admitted the truth of the incident and said that the murder is suspected to be the result of past enmity.

According to police sources, Golam Rabbani had been in hiding since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5. His body has been kept at the Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police said they are investigating when he came to Cox's Bazar, where he stayed and why he was killed.
