Foster son accused of killing mother in Jashore
A young man named Sheikh Shams has been accused of beating his foster mother to death in Jashore.
On Saturday (May 24) afternoon, police recovered the body of Sultana Khaleda Khanam Siddika, 64, from her house in the Pholpotty area in Monihar of Jessore city. At that time, police also detained the accused son, Sheikh Shams, 24.
Abul Hasnat, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station, said that the body was found lying on the floor of the house. It has been sent to Jessore General Hospital for an autopsy.
According to local residents and police sources, in the morning, tenants called out to her when there was no water, but she did not respond. Concerned, they called the national emergency number 999. Police arrived and broke down the door to recover the body. Sheikh Shams was found inside the room at the time.
The victim’s nephew, S.M. Mahmudul Kabir, said that Sultana, who had no children of her own, adopted Shams when he was just three months old and raised him with love. However, Shams had been addicted to drugs for a long time and often abused his mother for money to buy drugs. Sultana never told anyone about this abuse.
Police said that after the murder, Sheikh Shams had breakfast in the morning and then went to sleep. His bag was found packed, suggesting he was preparing to flee. During initial questioning, Shams confessed to killing his mother, according to the police.
